The range of character quirks allow for a camp series of tales, even if the puzzle format is repetitive and unchanging through the series. In this way clues about the gender, weapon, location etc can allow the reader to tick off each character in the table to hunt the culprit. Each chapter ends with a Logic Puzzle table () that the reader can use to narrow in on the suspect, by clues given throughout the story (“A women’s voice was heard from the shadowy figure, gripping the Candlestick tightly”, “Colonel Mustard exited the room, taking the rope with him” etc). Puzzle formatįor each book in this series, 10 mysteries were included, most (but not always) ending in the death of the millionaire host Mr Boddy. Clue, based off the hit 1943 English boardgame by Anthony E Pratt, builds a series of stories around the renowned characters - Mr White, Colonel Mustard, Ms Scarlet etc - in a series of camp murder mystery romps.Īrchetypal stories - a weekend in a lavish mansion, a mysterious owner, a series of suspicious characters, all with their own twerks and a convenient array of weapons - leads to an infinite array of short tales, with 18 books made, as well as a few shorter spin-off series’.
